Internal Medicine Department led Chirafund provides patient care and logistical facilities at QECH

Chirafund

The Department of Internal Medicine runs the Chira (Chichewa for “get well”) fund. The Chirafund aims at improving the quality of care, comfort and dignity of adult patients at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre. The fund was established more than 10 years ago and  receives donations from organisations, friends, past and present staff and well wishers from all over the world. It uses the donations to provide for everyday needs for the hospital’s patients, particularly by providing patient care, recruitment of professional guardians, better toilet and ablution facilities, wheelchairs and, in emergencies, drugs that may be temporarily out-of-stock.
